Bowling Break

Tuesday, after fixing my car, head light issues, for an hour in the bitter cold & snow
Whitney & I went bowling at Hugos {on the hill}
After I got over my hypothermia we ate yummy tacos & chicken fingers
Then, we bowled the night away
Whitney learned how to bowl lolz
& I did pretty good after my feet became unfrozen

 We had a wonderful time!
Dancing to all the music and speed bowling at the end
Plus we had AWESOME shoes & a comfy leather couch to sit on.

It was a nice break from our crazy school schedule.
ALL FOR JUST $5.00 -- Thanks to ASWSU!

INJECTIONS

My sacrifices for medical practice!
Whitney, Maria, Biljiana, and I bravely went to the lab to practice giving intramuscular and intradermal injections on Wednesday after catheter care lab
Background: we have the opportunity to practice injections on each other AFTER
sign a scary waiver that states if we get muscle, nerve, or tissue damage the school or injector is not liable {lucky, we are still whole & free of permanent injury}!
This is a great opportunity so you don’t have to be all nervous giving your first injection, especially intradermal, on a random patient.
It is quite scary getting a 1inch needle stuck into your arm by your clinical mates and even more scary to have a baby needle make a bubble under your skin
But my group did AWESOME & I am so proud of us for overcoming our nerves and fears

STEPS
First, we signed our life away
Second, we demonstrated that we could draw saline solution and give injections to a dumby
Third, we prepared a sterile field, collected all our injection materials, and preformed the 6 rights of administration
Forth, we drew the saline solution & performed normal procedures for preparing an injection site
Fifth, we injected the IM injection & got a cool Band-Aid
Sixth, redo 3 & 4 and injected intradermal & got a cool Band-Aid
Seventh, celebration

The Positives:
Cool Looney Toon Band-Aids
Experience
Personally, got a wheal for my first intradermal injection!
Encouragement and comfort of my friends and colleagues

The Negatives:
Pain of needles
Allergic reaction to the adhesive band-aid
Some not getting a wheal for intradermal

After we all practiced injections and finished the day’s courses.
Whitney & I went to OZ fitness to do a “hardcore” workout
This workout lasted 2.5 hours
I don’t think Whiney will ever go to the gym with me again
We focused on abs, inner/outer thigh, calves, lower back, triceps, obliques, & “the THASS”
Overall, this was a success!
We woke up feeling HORRIBLE
We sat in class the next day stretching our soreness which was literally all our muscles
It was fun & difficult
We will be going Monday whether Whitney wants to or not
Apparently I am too hardcore
Feeling good and sore today
Off to Pullman for Casey’s birthday & the UW vs. WSU basketball game

Not so Secretly

I have a bad habit of saying "I secretly..."
So I thought I would start a blog tradition of
my monthly not so secrets

I secretly...

  • have more friends over the age of 25 than my age
  • get aggressive when backing into my garage so I cannot talk on the phone at the same time
  • want to punch people in the back of the head when they walk slow
  • make bad ass chicken tacos
  • eat at least 2-3 lbs of cheese a week
  • couldn't do a full push up when working out with Casey
  •  chuckle to myself when someone sets themselves up for a "that's what she said" joke
  • love old people
  • sleep on the couch more than my own bed
  • use my vacuum more than anything else
  • love my new coffee maker
  • want to go to PA to visit all my family
  • watch the Voice every Monday
  • wish it was summer
  • got a text from one of my good friends, Whitney, at 10:30pm saying "I finally got that stupid peanut butter jar open!" Some victory huh & why was she eating peanut butter at 10:30pm?
  • thought I got a C on a test & ended up getting an A-
  • am terrified to answer my door when anyone knocks
  • love writing in cursive
  • want to cute my hair shorter than it is
  • love learning
  • am planning on getting my Masters in nursing & becoming a professor
  • love getting flowers even though I act like I don't
  • spend more time at school & clinical than at home
  • never turn on my heat
  • think my fish are the coolest pets ever
  • talk to my fish every morning when I get ready
  • eat breakfast by myself every morning at a giant table for six
  • cannot wait to sand and paint my table with my mom
  • don't know what to do in the car when my mom doesn't answer her phone-sad
  • only listen to Billy Joel, Elton John, backstreet boys, and some country
  • suck at making chocolate chip cookies
  • love blogging!

"They cut me open with a chainsaw"

When you're a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours.
Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription.
My clinical group tackled our first simulation lab today!
We worked as a team that seemed like they have been together for years
& conquered scenarios that most J1 groups wouldn't have
I am very proud of my group & I trust them 100%
I'm very happy with how well our group is bonding & getting along
We have a long hard road ahead of us & we will get through it together
Congrats everyone for doing awesome in SIM!

I Love You Weekend

Casey & I celebrated Valentine's day
the weekend before
because Valentine's day fell on a Tuesday this year
& as you all know we are 76 miles apart so...

Gifts from me to you:
For Valentine's Day this year, I made Casey a 20 page "Photo book"
Casey and I have have/had an inside joke about a scrapbook
that he thought I would never make
However, I had been working on this photo book for quite some time now
It is a summary of our love from the beginning to now.

His present to me was much better!!
I got a TRIPOD for my DSLR camera!
Sunpak: Platinum Plus 6000 PG 61" Tripod!
I was ecstatic when getting this present!
{even though I felt a tad under the weather}
Casey's ring

Casey & I decided to get cheap right hand promise rings
{that wouldn't turn our fingers green} for this Valentine's day.
A statistic for WSU nursing school that may be shocking you...
the average age is 28 years old!
So, the majority of nursing school is married so
we both thought it would be a good idea,
so I had something to show off, haha.

These are two views of my ring, I absolutely love it!
