My Not So Little Sister

Angela Renee Rocchi
Born February 3rd, 1995

Even though I’m older,
And we often see things differently,
There’s not a single thing
I would not do for you.
No matter where you are
And no matter what you do
I will always be here for you.
You’re my baby sister,
And I love you.
My not so little sister has grown up so fast
I didn't even realize 17 birthdays had past
Now you are a grown lady, I know
Growing up is not something a certificate will show

My baby sister you will forever be
Our love is something not everyone can see
Sometimes our journey may seem long
But our friendship will always remain strong

We might fight like ugly monsters one day
Then we are best friends running out to play
Sisters are sisters no matter what comes our way

The Rocchi name has a weird connection
We have a different kind of affection
It's true others would call it strange
But we know there is no reason to change

We love to tease about all things
Picking at every one of your strings
But family love is the best life brings

You are my not so little sister this year
I can't promise I wont shed a tear
You are growing up so tough
Saying I love you just isn't enough

Happy Birthday Angela!

Boo-yah

Busy busy week so far.
I have my first pathology/physiology/pharmacy exam next Wednesday
That Whitney & I have been studying quite productively for!
We will be prepared!--bring it on!

You're probably wondering why I have a taco bell packet on here...
I unfortunately attempt to eat a taco bell taco today for lunch.
However, it was very soon before I saw it again.. {sorry for the image}
I don't know why but I have lost all appetite for food, have shortness of breath, & muscle fatigue/soreness
According to some professors at my school..
I'm not getting good enough circulation of oxygen to my extremities...
My left leg randomly turn blue {cyanosis} when I sit too long!
& no I am not getting secret super powers, I wish :[

I will have a post new week for Angela's Birthday {Feb 3rd},
then I Love You Day,
& then the 24 Days of Casey!

My Hero turns 49

Dominic N. Rocchi Jr.
Born January 21, 1963

My father has been there for me through thick and thin
God, I am so luckily to be bless with this kin
He makes me strong when I’m feeling blue
He helps me relax when I’m stress too

I truly don’t know where I would be without his guidance
He listens to my days complaints with compassion and patience
After days have been stressful and long
I look to the place where I know I belong

I am so grateful for all the things he has done for me
Without him, I don’t know what kind of person I would be
Life has crafted me a perfect daddy.
I will be his little yellie for all of eternity

Fathers hold you when you have bad dreams
And they comfort you when all is lost it seems.
Fathers teach you to dribble a basketball and shoot a free throw
And they lead you as you grow.
Fathers teach you how to drive a car
And they try to teach you how to putt for par.
Fathers wipe the tears of your broken heart
And they hold your hand when you don't know how to start.
Fathers quiz the boys who take you on a date
And they scold those boys who bring you home late.
Fathers carry you on their shoulders when you're too small to see
And they watch as you giggle when they bounce you on their knee.
Fathers extend their feet to you when they teach you how to dance
And they always give you a second chance.
Fathers wait in the wings while you start your own life
And they pray for a husband to make you a wife.
Fathers walk you down the aisle on your wedding day
But fathers never really give their little girls away.

Rookie of the Year: Blizzard

My day started at 6am with a light snow fall
Then I sat through 6hours of class...

Fun fact of the day:
This is a figure demonstrating the speed that it takes different drug forms to get into your blood stream
Some of you may think this is common sense HOWEVER...
When your mother tells you to suck it up and take the nasty liquid form of Pepto Bismol
You should probably listen
{mothers know best}

ALSO: effectiveness of a drug is more important than the potency {dosage}!
Don't let drugs fool you into buying them because of the high dosage!
There is a complex answer behind this that I wont go into but
Yay for fun facts of the day nursing school style

Little did I know there was a blizzard outside in Spokane!
You could not see the building next to you it was so bad
Thank GOD this was not me today!
For a noob driver I did awesome today at driving!
Rookie of the year award for sure!

After engraving my stethoscope with Whitney,
we embarked on this wintery journey to South Hill ...

It took us about 15 minutes to heat up my car and brush off the half a foot of snow
but eventually made it back to my apartment alive.

After our nice 1.5 hour break of warmth we ventured back to school for clinical lab:
Where we brushed each others teeth, did all sorts of hygiene exercises,
bed transferring, administering oxygen, bed making with patients in the bed,
reviewed vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, etc.), & bed bathing.

These are things we will perform on an actual patient tomorrow in clinical
I will be waking up at 3:45 AM to get ready for clinical tomorrow...
Pray that the roads don't kill me tomorrow..
The lights in Spokane are still flashing yellow at this time.
So we will see if I am truly cut out for this nursing thing after all..

Pizza Extravaganza!

On Sunday, Casey and I decided to make a pizza!
After getting all the right ingredients it was rather fun!
{for me at least; I didn't do much}
I only read the directions & took pictures. silly me!
A true man watches football and kneads dough :]
I think his favorite part was stretching the dough the "adventurous way"
{according to the directions}
Egg whisk {Casey got for me for my birthday last year}
Yes, we did make stuffed crust!

Just being silly with the pepperoni

I decided I should be in at least one picture.

Our pizza creation was delicious! & we had even more fun making it!
Well Casey did. haha.

Now back to school work and no fun :[
I just recently bought a blood pressure pump at the uniform store downtown
It is an awesome new toy! I have been taking everyone blood pressure!
I am excited for almost all my classes this week.
Patho/Pharm is very difficult for me;
I do not like memorizing drugs &/or chemistry
But I must embrace it.
Check in later!

Usual days at the CON

{note to self: do not wear red for your next picture--your face will look like a lobster}
I know you have been hearing lots and lots about my nursing school..
But I am very excited.
Every time I get a new piece of equipment or in this case a name badge you will hear about it!
So, if you are following my blog:
You will be hearing about my crazy nursing life for the next two years, sorry.
These are the most comfortable shoes ever! I am very excited to wear them!
I cannot talk about my clinical{legal reasons} but I can talk about the rest of my classes..
I have only been to three of my classes so far {three to go}.
I absolutely love my 317: health assessment professor!
All my professors, so far, are phenomenal!

Tomorrow I have a very busy day with classes from 8am-2pm
& then I come back for lab from 5-9pm! fun fun..

Actual school is not the hard part; I love taking notes and listening to lectures BUT
16 hours of prep work for a 1 credit lab every week is CRAZY!
The one nice thing about clinical/clinical lab is that it is pass/fail! Truly just focusing on learning!

I calculated the amount of work each teacher recommends outside of class time to study
& there is not enough time in a day.
I don't know how half the people at this school can handle this with families and work!
Kudos!

She's a beauty isn't she?
Tomorrow my lab is for my clinical and I am ECSTATIC!
This is the lab were I get to practice all my skills on other people :] muahaha {evil laugh}
However, as exciting as that is.. I have to be a victim as well.. we'll see how that goes
I don't know if I'll let some one stick me with an IV... I barely let doctors do that.

Also, I have simulation lab on the 16th of February!
If you don't know what this is...
I know this "sims man" looks rather scary BUT it is so awesome!

This is a very expensive piece of equipment that most other schools don't own.
A simulation man is a manikin that can do just about everything.
He cries, sweats, changes color, urinates, etc.
You can check his BP, pulse, heart rate, lung sounds, etc.
Also you can inject IVs into the sims man or take an EKG, etc.
The possibilities are endless, it is very exciting & an awesome opportunity.
This man is in one of our "medical rooms" & connecting room next door there is a one way glass
Also, in the room next door, there the instructor controlling the sims man.
The situation always gets worse, of course..
Simulation lab is where you are put to the test--scary huh?!

I will touch base here again at the end of the week to talk about my other classes!
Then, hopefully I will have a relaxing weekend of no homework..hahaha yes I am dreaming

Sometimes you have to sit down & decide which things you could truly go on without doing and accept it.
